#2: AutoCAD 2018.1 Update

AutoCAD 2018.1 Update

This update includes new features and enhancements for AutoCAD 2018. It also fixes several bugs and defects, including:

  • Occasional crashes when switching the visual style to 3D after using the PDFCLIP command no longer occur
  • Occasional crashes when right-clicking the drawing from the Start tab no longer occur
  • Occasional crashes when saving to the AutoCAD 2004/LT 2004 Drawing format or an earlier format no longer occur
  • The properties of complex linetypes are now supported by standards files (.dws)
  • AutoCAD no longer hangs on Windows 10 when copying objects between AutoCAD 2018 and AutoCAD 2017
  • The Digital Signature Warning dialog box does not display on every save or autosave operation
  • Plot preview performance is improved on some drawings that previously were slower than expected

See the README for more info. Use the Autodesk Desktop App to download and install these updates.

Don’t forget: AutoCAD Updates can be applied to AutoCAD installed as a standalone application and AutoCAD-based vertical products (e.g. Civil 3D, Map 3D, etc.).

#3: Autodesk ReCap & ReCap Pro Update – Version

ReCap/ReCap Pro Update - Version

This update resolved several issues, including:

  • Transferring certain mobile projects could have resulted in a crash
  • Certain project data (images, attachments) were not visible after mobile transfer
  • Removing an unregistered scan could have resulted in a crash
  • ReCap could hang when transitioning from 3D to RealView in certain very large projects

See the README for more info. Use the Autodesk Desktop App to download and install these updates.

#4: Autodesk Vehicle Tracking 2018.0 Hotfix 1

Autodesk Vehicle Tracking 2018.0.1 Hotfix 1

This update resolved several issues, including:

  • Repeatedly displayed messages upon opening some AutoCAD or Civil 3D files about entities containing data produced by a newer version of Vehicle Tracking will no longer appear
  • Roundabout baseline targeting flags were not being set for new roundabout baselines
  • A Blank Dialog Box appeared when running a Vehicle Tracking Command or a Civil 3D Roundabout Command while opening a drawing that contains data from a newer version of the application
  • Holes appeared in the roundel area around splitter islands for roundabouts corridors that have Stockdale crown lines
  • Small lumps appeared in roundabouts on Stockdale crown line curves between the yield line and the roundel crown line
  • The exit side crown line occasionally stayed at elevation 0 for single arm roundabouts
  • The profile report did not display the vehicle side view in either vehicle diagram, or when inserted into a drawing

See the README for more info. Use the Autodesk Desktop App to download and install these updates.

#5: AutoCAD Map 3D 2017.0.4 Hotfix

Map 3D 2017.0.4 Hotfix

This hotfix addresses several issues, including:

  • Digitizing a feature resulted in an error if the corresponding layer has defined a query including the non-standard functions such as TB_VARIABLE
  • In Electric Explorer, the Select Feature from Map option didn’t work for structure features
  • New devices were not automatically related to the selected structure point
  • The Pole icon didn’t display in Electric Container in the EL_CE Data Model
  • The Split Cable operation associated the wrong devices to split cables
  • Map 3D crashed when MAPTOACAD used long block names
  • MAPTOACAD crashed because the display model layer saved the wrong settings in XML
  • Sometimes stretching a vertex caused other vertices to be moved together
  • On Windows 10, Map 3D 2017 could not import ASCII txt files
  • Map 3D created the wrong result with intersection for some data when performing overlay analysis

See README for more info. Use the Autodesk Desktop App to download and install these updates.

From Civil Immersion: “In my first week working with a field crew, I learned there is a lot more geometric information to understand about an arc than just its radius and arc length.  There is the delta angle, chord distance, external secant, mid ordinate distance and more. … Fortunately for us, Civil 3D includes a curve calculator where we can enter the parameters we know about the arc and it will automatically compute all of the parameters we don’t.”

A Replacement for Part Builder? We’ll see…

From Civil 3D Plus: “Creating custom parts for your storm sewer or sanitary sewer networks in Civil 3D is not fun. If you’ve ever had to go into Part Builder, you know what I’m talking about; secret variables, odd objects (what’s a COL object anyways?), and sometimes things just don’t work (haven’t been able to create a cut plane in Part Builder in almost a decade). I have good news for you. In InfraWorks 2018.1, there is a new tool called the Infrastructure Parts Editor.”

5 Ways Drones Are Transforming Earthworks Projects

From 3DR: “Drones have quickly become one of the most versatile tools on the construction site. Whether it’s for documentation before pouring concrete, making pre-design processes more efficient, or speeding up data collection for infrastructure projects, drones have become the aerial eye of the jobsite, helping construction professionals work better and more productively.”
